A：根據 Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) 這本著名修辭書籍裡所寫的 “four and one-eight inches”，我們應該寫成 “two and one-half inches”。CMOS 說，在表示「幾又幾分之幾 (整數 + 分數)」的帶分數時，整數不必用連字號 (hyphen) 來跟分數結合在一起。
注意：分數無論是單獨存在或是當複合形容詞用，其中間一定要有連字號，如 two-thirds, three-eighths, one-third apple, two-tenths point。這與 21 到 99 一定要有連字號的寫法一樣：twenty-one, ninety-nine。
