A：在英國、澳洲等英語系國家 (不包括美國) 以及台灣、日本等非英語系國家，101 都是寫成 “one hundred and one”，反過來說，one hundred and one 就是 101，殆無疑義。然而，在美國，有些人，尤其是一些文法純正人士，卻把 “and” 當作 “(decimal) point” (小數點)；換言之，如果你寫 one hundred and one，他們會把這數字視為 100.1 而不是 101。至於 101 則寫成 “one hundred one”。再舉一例，若根據他們的規則，six hundred and forty-five 是 600.45，而不是 645。只是絕大多數人都不採用這項規則。
不過，談到數字的寫法，就不得不提到一項放諸四海皆準的規則，那就是 21 到 99 (30、40、50、60、70、80 和 90 除外) 不管出現在整個數字的那個位置，它們都要加連字號，而數字的英文字之中不可使用逗號。例如：
- 63 (sixty-three) (正)
- 456 (four hundred and fifty-six) (正)
- 1,234 (one thousand two hundred and thirty-four) (正) － 注意：阿拉伯數字雖有逗號，但數字的英文字不可有逗號。
- 45,290 (forty-five thousand two hundred and ninety) (正)
- 74,237,687 (seventy-four million two hundred and thirty-seven thousand six hundred and eighty-seven) (正)
- 35,664 (thirty five thousand six hundred and sixty four) (誤) － thirty five 和 sixty four 要加連字號。
- 7,625 (seven thousand, six hundred and twenty-five) (誤) － 不可使用逗號。
