Sound, voice (nn.)

Molly began screaming at the top of her voice.

We can hear the sound of bees. (我們能聽到蜜蜂嗡嗡的聲音);I heard strange sounds from the basement. (我聽到從地下室傳來各種奇怪的聲音);The students didn’t make a sound as they left the classroom. (學生悄無聲息地離開了教室);We could hear the sound of voices/laughter/footsteps.

Donna is not in good voice. (唐娜現在嗓子不好);Mary’s voice is very sweet. (瑪麗的聲音很甜);John has got a bad cold and he has lost his voice. (約翰得了重感冒,他的聲音都沙啞了);Robin is a man with a soft/deep/loud voice.

Voice 除了上述字面的意思外,還經常做比喻用,意為「發言權、表達意見權」,其句型為 to have a voice (in sth.),如 They have no voice in the matter.
