Forbidding vs. foreboding

His girlfriend’s three days of silence is a foreboding sign, making Jack feel that something bad will happen. Becky had a grim foreboding that she’d never see her husband again. (貝姬有一種再也見不到她先生的可怕的不祥預感);His girlfriend’s three days of silence filled Jack with foreboding.

His manner is forbidding but actually he is very kind. (他的態度令人生畏,但其實他非常和藹);The Arctic Ocean is a forbidding place for oil drillers. (北冰洋對鑽油業者而言是個險惡的地方) [New York Times];That haunted house is a gloomy and forbidding place.
