Gouge 與 gauge 的拼字只有一個字母之差，但兩者並無關連。Gouge 意為「(利器鑿成的) 孔，洞，槽；半圓鑿 (a kind of chisel，一種鑿子)」，如 John used a gouge to make a rather deep hole in the surface of his desk.
