首先感謝您的回答, 很報歉沒有說明清楚, 我的問題是括號中為何只能使用that? 因為這個位置應該是問代的位置, 為何不能用which呢? 這是以前英文老師的講義上印的,應該是不會錯, 但我卻找不到理由? 希望有高手能提供想法, 謝謝.

That 可以指人或事物。families 後面的關代也可用 who，而括弧中的 which/that 則需使用 which 或 that，但因 hours 是當受詞 (spent 的受詞)，所以可以省略。

我用google查詢，totally X years, totally X dollars都有人用，但好像total比較多人使用。
用 totally，因為 6 years 是一段時間，並非累加而成的「總共6年」。若要表示總共，可用當名詞用的 total，如「6 years in total」或「a total of 6 years」。所以，您的句子應用 totally 6 years (整整6年)。

寫完文章後，原參考資料已經丟掉。您可用 “cultural appropriation colonialism” google 一下。OED 會不定時或在年底公布新收錄的字詞，cultural appropriation 是出現在 OED 網站 2017 年初新增的字詞中。
