A：「一倍半」就是「1.5倍」(1.5 × 某數)。英文的「一倍半」可以直接說成 one and a half times [其後通常接 “as + many, much 或其他形容詞 (+ as)”]，如 The orbit of Mars is one and a half times as big as that of Earth. (火星的軌道比地球的軌道大一倍半)。然而，英文同一個意思往往有一種以上的說法。除了 one and a half times 外，亦可用 “half as + many, much 或其他形容詞 + again (+ as)” 或 “half again + as + many, much 或其他形容詞 (+ as)” 來表達相同的意思，如 My company’s exports to Asia are half as many again as (or half again as many as) those to Europe. (本公司對亞洲的出口是對歐洲出口的一倍半)。
在 “half as + many/much + again (+ as)” 中，如果拿掉 half，使其變成 “as + many/much + again (+ as)”，那麼就會產生一個意思迄今仍模稜兩可的片語。這個片語屢見不鮮，但它卻有兩個截然不同或相互矛盾的意思。有些字典說 “as + many/much + again (+ as)” 是「同數量」(the same number, the same amount, the same quantity)，但其他字典則說它是「多一倍」(twice as many/much)，即「兩倍」(2 × 某數) 的意思。例如，在 I have six at home and as many again in the office.
