Time waits for no man 意為「時間不等人」，是一句非常古老的諺語，但這只是此一諺語中最常被引用的部分。整個諺語是：Time and tide wait for no man。
在此諺語中，tide 經常被用來指海洋的潮汐，與時間的消逝一樣是自然現象，是人類無法控制的事物。但事實上，tide 在此指的是季節或一段時間，如 Christmastide (聖誕節期間 － 從 12 月 24 日到隔年 1 月 6 日)。
Time and tide wait for no man 早在 1225 年就有記錄可考，但一般相信，這個諺語在更早之前就已存在。
