Huge 和 vast 除了指數量龐大外，還都有「巨大的」意思，但它們的含意並不相同，使用時不可不慎，尤其是這兩個形容詞都相當常用，使用時稍一不慎，可能就會貽笑大方。譬如說，在 There are two huge buildings in the community. (這社區有兩棟巨大的建築物) 這句中，只能使用 huge，不可用 vast，因為 huge 是指體積巨大的，而 vast 則是指面積巨大的。
Huge 除了指數量龐大外，主要在指體積或容量巨大的、極大的，意為「巨大的；龐大的」，如 There’s a huge ship in the sea. (海上有一艘巨大的輪船)；They have three huge dogs. (他們養了三隻巨型犬)；The billionaire has several huge houses. (那個億萬富豪擁有好幾棟巨宅)；The actress earns huge amounts of money from endorsement. (這位女演員從商品代言賺進大把鈔票)。
Vast 除了指數量龐大外，主要在指面積巨大的、廣大的、廣闊的，意為「巨大的；廣大的」，如 The sea is vast and spacious. (大海浩瀚無垠)；That area is covered in vast forests. (那個地區被一片廣闊的森林所覆蓋)；It is a vast expanse of desert. (那是一片遼闊的大沙漠)；Fans flocked to the concert in vast numbers. (大批粉絲湧去聽音樂會)。
再者，vast 經常用在 amount, number, quantity, sum 以及 majority 之前，表示金額、數量龐大的以及絕大多數的，如 Tom will get a vast sum of money tomorrow. (湯姆明天將會獲得一筆鉅款)；The vast majority of people in the country don’t support the current president. (該國絕大多數人民都不支持現任總統)。
