Neither 可當連接詞、副詞、限定詞和代名詞用，這裡要談的是 neither 當限定詞和代名詞的用法，表示兩者中沒有任何一個，即「兩者都不」。例如：

Neither of 亦不能用 none of 來代替，因為 none of 是表示三者 (或三者以上) 中沒有任何一個。例如：
- I have two sisters. Neither of them is/are teachers. (我有兩個姊妹。她們都不是老師) (正)
- I have two sisters. None of them is/are teachers. (誤)
用作代名詞的 none，意為「沒有任何人 (或物)」，後接複數名詞時，它的動詞亦可以是單數或複數形式。例如：
- None of the earphones are/is working. (所有耳機都壞了)
- None of them speak(s) English. (他們都不會講英語)
最後要提的是，neither 有兩種發音：/ˈnaɪðə(r)/ 或 /ˈni:ðə(r)/；同樣地，either 亦有兩種發音：/ˈaɪðə(r)/ 或 /ˈi:ðə(r)/。
